Memorial Day Remembrance

I will be remembering all those who gave their life for our country during this Memorial Day weekend.  This year I will especially remember Captain Kimberly Hampton.  I just finished reading her story in a great book, Kimberly's Flight, and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Kimberly grew up in nearby Easley, SC and graduated from Presbyterian College where she was a Tennis Standout.  She was also very active in the ROTC program and eventually joined the army and became a helicopter pilot.  Her helicopter was shot down over Iraq and she was the first woman killed in combat in the history of the United States.  This book is inspiring and educational.  I learned so much more about the military and their families, the American Gold Star Mothers Program and the War in Iraq.  The photo below is used with permission of the authors of the book:  Anna Simon and Kimberly's mother, Ann Hampton.
